Date: April 7, 2025
From: Blood Tribe Department of Health states:
Oki! Students, Parents, Guardians, and KBE Employees,
Please see Blood Tribe Department of Health (BTDH) letter to Kainai Board of Education.
Immunization status can be verified by contacting BTDH Community Health at 403-737-3933.
"Preventing School and Work Disruptions:
- Those who can prove prior immunity (vaccination or past infection) are not required to quarantine if exposed
- Unimmunized individuals exposed to measles must quarantine for up to three weeks after their last exposure. This can lead to significant school absences.
- Being fully vaccinated can help prevent missed school or work days.
General Preventative Measures:
- Encourage frequent handwashing for at least 20 seconds.
- Promote proper respiratory etiquette: cover coughs and sneezes, and wash hands afterward.
- Stay home if feeling unwell
- If someone suspects they have measles or have been exposed, they should contact BTDH Community Health or call Heathlink at 811.
If an individual diagnosed with measles was infectious while at school, our Public Health team will identify those potentially exposed. Measles virus can remain in the air for up to two hours after an infected person has left an area, increasing exposure risks. Attendance records for students, staff, volunteers, and visitors may be requested for contact tracing. Those who can confirm prior immunity will not need to quarantine."
